Class discussion question

Energy is always "conserved" in nature. The practice of turning your lights off and trying to use energy efficient appliances is really reducing energy consumption, not conserving it. As we start our unit on electricity, here's a question to answer. What three electrical appliances in your house/apartment use up the most energy and why did you pick those three?

1. I would guess that the refrigerator uses a lot of energy because it has to maintain a constant temperature for the freezer and fridge and I think this would use a lot of energy.

2. I think that my clock also uses a lot of energy because it is always lit up and plugged in.

3. Another guess would be the microwave because it is also always plugged in and when you use it has to heat up stuff really quick. I would guess that uses a lot energy to do.

1. Plasma TV uses a lot of electricity because its big and gets hot.

2. Heat/ AC unit because it is always running throughout the year.

3. Refrigerator because it is always on and we use it a lot.

The first would be my fridge because it is the largest appliance that I have and it is always on. The second would be the washer that I have because although it is not always on, I use it often and it is a big appliance and consumes a lot of energy even though it is an energy star. The third would be the lamps in the house since one of them is in a timer. Either that or the garage door.

1. Probably my refrigerator since its always in use.

2. Then the tv in the living room because no one in the house ever turns it off, for some reason.

3. Finally, heater in the house, since its pretty much always on, even when the windows are open.

Yikes!!

1. My refrigerator because it is always on.

2. My washer and dryer. My washer and dryer are small so I have to do several loads of laundry.

3. My tv. It is the only other electrical device that is always plugged in besides my fridge and washer/dryer.

1. 100 Watt Lamps because they are using more energy than the 70 Watt lamps I have.
2. My desktop computer because it uses more electricity, as I have it on for long periods of time.
3. My refrigerator because it uses many Watts of energy to run.
